Integrity, tolerance and service


Non-discrimination

AV Consulting hires individuals who have valuable skills, high integrity, and who can work well with others. We do not discriminate on any basis, other than individual skills, integrity and tolerance. If you work with us, you will be working with good people who are pleasant to be around. Anyone with integrity issues, or who are intolerant of people not like themselves, need not apply.

Compensation

We believe in compensating our employees and contractors well, to the extent their productivity will allow. We offer flexible benefits, including "fill-in" plans for persons with benefits through another employer. Since much of our work is based on projects, most of our opportunities are temporary. This is an ideal opportunity for skilled individuals who have other full time work to earn additional income and learn new skills. We also work with independent contractors. As we grow, more full-time opportunities become available. These opportunities are offered first to persons with whom we have worked successfully.

Corporate Culture

Like any group of people, we at AV Consulting have a culture of our own, and persons whose attitudes are compatible with that culture are most likely to enjoy working with us. Here is a synopsis of our corporate culture, beyond the usual workplace concerns, that may help you decide whether to apply for a position with us.

We believe that our corporate values of integrity, tolerance and service extend beyond the workplace, and into our communities.

We believe in the free enterprise system, but we also believe in fairness. The nature of our work is that many of us studied hard to learn our craft, and many of us spend considerable time working independently. Yet we recognize that we did not get where we are today in isolation; our families, our community and our nation helped us achieve our success. We believe we owe a debt to others, and we work to give back to our community and our country.

We believe in the American ideals of liberty and equal justice, and in the inalienable right of all persons to the pursuit of happiness. We believe that government has a role in helping people achieve their potential, but that government should not dictate to people how to live their lives.

When we see a wrong, we don't say "that's the way it has always been," we work to make it right. We believe that citizens have a duty to take an active role in government, to correct their government when it is wrong, and we urge all Americans to become informed, to get involved, and to vote responsibly.

We wish most Americans felt the way we do, but in the terror-scared America of post-9/11, we now find ourselves (most of us at AV Consulting) on the left side of the political divide. (We are in Ann Arbor.)

But that doesn't mean you have to be a lefty. If you can handle working with a few liberals, you can work here. We don't all have to agree on everything. If we did, we wouldn't need a democracy.

We place a high priority on tolerance, and you have a right to your opinion. Many of our friends and clients are socially conservative, and that is fine. So are some of our subcontractors.

As an employee, however, harmony in the workplace is important. You may find you do not fit in if you  feel you must explain your strong conservative views to everyone. It's not that we don't respect your views, or don't enjoy a good political debate, it's just that when we are trying to earn a living, we don't have time to argue. This is less of a problem (usually no problem at all) with independent contractors.
